Lectors

What is a Lector?

(This ministry may also be called Reader or Proclaimer of the Word.)

A Lector is the person who proclaims the readings at Mass. This person also reads the Prayers of the Faithful and announcements during the liturgy.

A Lector must have a desire to minister in this capacity at the Eucharistic liturgy. This ministry requires a person of excellent character who is serious about the practice of their faith.

The Lector must believe that Sacred Scripture is the Word of God and have a deep respect for God's presence in that Word.

Who can be a Lector?

  • A man, woman, or young person who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation
  • A person in full communion with the Catholic Church
  • Someone who is serious about the practice of their faith
